Climbing the Roter Stein
The trail starts at the car park opposite the Berwanger Sonnalmbahn cable car. From here, follow the road slightly uphill towards the centre of the village until you reach the Hotel Edelweiß (no. 43 on the village map). Turning left, the road continues towards Gröben. Pass Gröben until the road turns into a wide gravelled path. Here, hiking trail no. 612 runs slightly uphill through the Älplestal valley along the Älplesbach stream to Älple 1,663 metres. Here you come to a fork in the path. Continue along the path in a left-hand direction, signposted Roter Stein (on the right you reach the Joch and the Hönig). The path now climbs steeply in places (only for experienced hikers) through rocky terrain to the summit of Roter Stein at 2,366 metres. Descent options:- same route back through the Älplestal valley to Gröben/Berwang- descent to Bichlbächle- descent via Hönig and Kögele to Berwang/Rinnen/Brand
