Summer in Berwang
Berwang-Bichlbach ski area in Austria
Active with the Berwang mountain railways
In the Berwang-Bichlbach ski arena, families with children, pleasure skiers, snowboarders and carving fans can discover 35 kilometres of groomed pistes with snow-making facilities and twelve cable cars and lifts.
The Berwang-Bichlbach hiking arena is the perfect place for families with children, individualists, mountain lovers and connoisseurs! On the sunny side of the Zugspitze, you will find numerous opportunities for a varied holiday. Hundreds of kilometres of hiking trails and mountain climbs, two mountain railways (Almkopfbahn-Bichlbach and Sonnalmbahn-Berwang), scenically unique mountain bike tours and single trails as well as water sports and action adventures ensure that there is never a dull moment. And if you like, you can also take to the air with paragliding.
The entrance to the family-friendly skiing and hiking area in the Tiroler Zugspitz Arena is located directly on the Fernpass federal road; the skiing and hiking region is therefore also recommended for day trips. If you would like to spend your holiday in Berwang-Bichlbach, simply choose your favourite accommodation from the wide range on offer. See you soon in Berwang!
We are modernising the Berwang ski area
In December 2025, we were able to put our new 10-person Obere Karbahn II gondola lift into operation, replacing the old Thanellerkar T-bar lift. The construction will not only provide greater comfort for guests, but also extend existing slopes, as the new mountain station will be located 140 metres higher than the end of the previous T-bar lift. The previous mountain station of the Obere Karbahn Section I will then serve as a middle station.
In 2020, the Panoramabahn Rastkopf was added to our Bergbahnen Berwang cable car family. We also built the Thanellerbahn, a fully automatic, child-safe 6-seater chairlift with individual seats and weather protection hoods, from the Thanellerkarlift car park to the Obere Karbahn middle station. A liftable conveyor belt makes it easier for even very small children to get on. We have also installed a publicly accessible magic carpet at the Thanellerbahn valley station.
Here you can find all information about the future projects and the construction diary.
